Remembering The Eagles Open Practices at Lehigh
As the beginning of the 2026 NFL season approaches and optimism for our respective teams begins to peak, I thought it would be fun to reminisce on the times when my fandom and excitement for the Philadelphia Eagles was at its highest.
No, it was not during the Super bowl championship years (2 of the last 8 years amazingly after 0 prior which is always crazy to think about). For me, it was during the Eagles practices which were open to the public that happened at Lehigh University during the Eagles training camp every summer from 1996-2011.
Growing up in Easton, PA, I remember being 11 years old when I attended my first Eagles open practice. With Lehigh University being so close to home, it was an amazing opportunity getting to see the team I enjoyed watching so much in person with all my closest childhood friends, just a short drive away. Being able to get autographs from the players during or after each practice from Philly legends like Brian Dawkins, Brian Westbrook, and Donovan McNabb was an unforgettable highlight of these practices. These were some of the fondest memories of my childhood, and it was something that I could experience with my closest family and friends with the practices being held so close to home. They are experiences that I will never forget and are a big part of the reason that I will be a lifelong Eagles fan and will always have a soft spot for the team that brought me such great joy growing up.
Unfortunately, current day, this opportunity no longer exists. Nevertheless, my wife and I still make it a point to go to their annual public practice every year that the Eagles now hold at Lincoln Financial Field, their home stadium. The cost is only $15 per person (with free parking!) and all the proceeds go to Autism awareness which is a cause we are happy to be able to support.
As an adult, it becomes apparent the things we took for granted in our youth may have been once in a lifetime. I encourage everyone to live in the moment this football season and if you enjoy the game, aim to make memories that you will never forget with the people you love the most.
