Mark & Denise – Ready for What’s Next

Redefining life after decades of working hard and raising a family.

Who they are:

Mark (64) is a recently retired manufacturing plant manager, and Denise (62) is a self-employed interior designer planning to scale back her work. They’ve been diligent savers and are now standing at the edge of a new chapter—ready to enjoy the fruits of their labor, but unsure how to shift from saving to spending.

What’s on their mind:

“Can we truly afford to slow down—and stay retired?”
“How do we replace our paychecks with steady income?”
“Will we be okay if healthcare costs spike down the road?”
“How do we enjoy today while still protecting tomorrow?”

How we helped:

We helped them reframe retirement from a single financial moment to an evolving lifestyle shift. Through thoughtful income planning and clear visuals, we mapped out their transition from work to retirement, layering in travel goals, and considered downsizing ideas. We made decisions on which accounts to pull from, over what period of time, when to start Social Security election and how to cover short-term healthcare insurance needs. We also built in contingencies for long-term care and for helping their kids or their aging parents, if needed. Most importantly, we created a plan that let them feel free to enjoy life without second-guessing every expense.

Haas Financial Group insight:

Mark and Denise didn’t need more spreadsheets—they needed confidence and permission to start living the life they had planned for. We helped them move from uncertainty to clarity, one conversation at a time.

Maya – Newly Retired, Feeling Lost

Who she is:

Maya (68) retired a few years ago after a long career in healthcare. She thought retirement would feel like freedom—but instead, she feels anxious, bored, and disconnected.

What’s on her mind:

“I thought I’d be happier…”
“Should I volunteer? Travel? Go back to work part-time?”
“What’s my purpose now?”
“How do I use my money in a way that gives me life?”

How we helped:

We didn’t just talk about spending strategies. We created space for Maya to reimagine what retirement could be by sharing the book What Will I Do All Day by Dr. Patrice Jenkins (link). We helped her create different investment buckets for her needs, another for wants, and another we titled “excess” so she felt safe testing new ideas for volunteering and community engagement. We began moving investment gains into her “excess” bucket to encourage spending and not just reinvesting income and growth. We also began to explore how to use her wealth in a tax efficient way to support causes she cares about, so she felt like she was helping herself AND others.

Haas Financial Group insight:

Maya’s financial plan wasn’t broken—her identity needed re-grounding. We helped her realign her resources with her values and take action with intention.

Lisa – Suddenly Single

Who she is:

Lisa (72) lost her husband unexpectedly a year ago. She never handled the family’s finances, and now faces a confusing mix of decisions, paperwork, and unfamiliar accounts.

What’s on her mind:

“Am I going to be okay on my own?”
“Do I have to sell the house?”
“How do I make smart financial decisions without my partner?”
“I don’t even know where to begin…”

How we helped:

We didn’t come in with a checklist. We started with listening. Over time, we helped Lisa organize and understand what she had, what decisions were urgent, and what could wait. We prioritized her peace of mind over any investment talk. As we organized her financial life again, we slowly began to make decisions for a sustainable income plan from existing assets and survivor benefits, for updating her estate plan and beneficiary designations, and projecting out taxes for filing single. We’ve since become her sounding board, guide, and trusted friend as she builds a new life—on her terms.

Haas Financial Group insight:

Lisa needed someone to reduce decision fatigue and build trust. She was scared to make decisions out of grief and guilt. By creating safety and pacing the process, we gave her the confidence to move forward.

James & Olivia – Blended Family, Shared Future

Who they are:

James (70) and Olivia (62) recently remarried. Each has children from previous marriages, and they’ve worked hard to build trust in their new life together. But now they’re navigating how to blend their financial lives—and plan their retirements and a legacy that feels fair but also respects their past.

What’s on their mind:

“How do we manage money together while honoring what we’ve built separately?”
“What happens if one of us passes first—how do we protect each other and our kids?”
“How do we avoid conflict down the road?”
“Can we build a joint vision without stepping on landmines?”

How we helped:

We led with conversation, not charts. We listened. We helped James and Olivia articulate their values and concerns individually, then crafted a financial plan that balanced joint goals with individual legacies. We led conversations with their estate attorney to structure thoughtful estate plans that were both strategic and sensitive. We helped them fill their Everplan portal to ensure all important aspects of their lives are ready to be picked up by their heirs.

Haas Financial Group insight:

Money isn’t just math in blended families—it’s memory, meaning, and emotion. We helped James and Olivia navigate this terrain with clarity, care, and respect—so they could build forward without leaving loose ends behind.

Erin & Marcus – High Earners, Still Building

Who they are:

Erin (45) is a healthcare executive, and Marcus (47) is a partner at a regional law firm. They earn well into six figures and are raising two teenagers while juggling demanding careers. Retirement is still a ways off—but their financial complexity is growing.

What’s on their mind:

“Are we doing the right things with our money?”
“We make good money—why doesn’t it feel like we’re ahead?”
“How should we balance paying for college, saving for retirement, and enjoying life now?”
“We want a second home—how do we do that wisely?”

How we helped:

We stepped in as their thought partners—simplifying the complexity, organizing the chaos, and helping them prioritize where to focus. We built a flexible plan that aligned their cash flow, equity compensation, and college savings strategy while also making room for living now. We lean heavily into technology to give them access to important information, whenever they have a moment to review. We don’t meet face to face very regularly, but our touch points and checkpoints (something as simple as a text message) are high, so that we able to adjust the plan on the fly as their careers evolve and new goals emerge.

Haas Financial Group insight:

High income doesn’t eliminate uncertainty—it often creates more decision points. Erin and Marcus needed a filter and a framework so they could focus their energy on what mattered most to them and stop second-guessing every big move.

Jason – Business Owner Planning What’s Next

Who he is:

Jason (51) built a successful commercial landscaping company from the ground up. He’s now thinking about succession and how to use the wealth he’s created without losing his identity.

What’s on his mind:

“Should I sell or pass the business to my kids?”
“How do I transition without giving up control too soon?”
“Can I afford to stop working?”
“What’s next for me if I’m no longer running the company?”

How we helped:

We became Jason’s strategic partner—not just for financial planning, but life planning. We helped model sale scenarios, structured a gradual exit plan, and aligned his wealth with his next chapter. We also helped him talk to his kids and clarify roles, making sure money didn’t get in the way of family.

Haas Financial Group insight:

Jason’s challenge wasn’t just technical - it was emotional. We helped reframe his identity beyond the business and create a new purpose-driven plan for life after ownership.
