Welcoming Our Newest Family Addition
Life was already plenty chaotic, no need for extra drama, but we went ahead and added another animal to the mix anyway.
My youngest daughter, Axy, has been begging (scheming, politely requesting, you name it) for a cat of her own ever since Ainsley brought home our first feline, Archie, from the Animal Rescue League back in August 2024.
Full disclosure: cats are still pretty foreign territory for me. I grew up with a dog, never had cats. A few friends had them, but those cats were the classic “hide-from-strangers” variety. When Amy and I started our life together, we ended up with two small dogs, and these days we’re ruled by our lovable 90-pound Golden Retriever, Aggie. Even after a year and a half with Archie, I’ll admit I still know next to nothing about cats. I’m very much a dog person at heart… though the cats are slowly winning me over.
After months of persistence, Axy finally wore us down. About a week ago, she came home from the Animal Rescue League with her very own tiny 3-pound, 3-month-old black kitten.
If I know little about cats in general, I know even less about kittens! Being a huge Hamilton fan, Axy had her heart set on naming any future cat “Washington.” But when sleek black kitten chose her, the name just didn’t fit. So, she pivoted brilliantly, and we now have Aaron Burr, aka Aaron Purr, aka Aaron Blur (because he’s lightning-fast), aka A-A-Ron, officially part of the family.
So far, he’s a sweet little guy who craves people time and loves chasing and wrestling with his big brother Archie (they’re warming up to each other day by day). He’s also getting braver around the big, gentle oaf that is Aggie, and he hasn’t met a piece of furniture, plant, or random object he hasn’t tried to climb and explore.
Welcome home, Aaron! Our house just got a little louder, a little furrier, and a whole lot more fun.
