Snowed In

There is a specific kind of quiet that only comes after a heavy snowfall. Once the sounds of shovels and snowblowers fade, our neighborhood feels completely transformed. While the sub-zero temperatures this week have definitely been a shock to the system, there’s something to be said for the way a big storm forces us to pause. In a world that usually moves at a mile a minute, being snowed in provides a rare and legitimate excuse to stay in our pajamas a little longer and catch up on a good book.

Of course, the peace and beauty of a winter wonderland wears off pretty quickly when you’re on your fourth round of clearing the driveway. But leaning into the season with heavy blankets and warm beverages is important. It’s also important to check on your neighbors and help out where you can. That helps to bring back that sense of peace when the snow first starts to fall.

As we navigate the ice and salt, I hope you are finding ways to keep warm and take the time to slow down this week. These stretches of the deep cold can be hard, but they remind us how tough we are. Whether you’re out enjoying the scenery or staying inside until spring, stay safe and stay warm. Spring is still a few months away, but for now, try to find the comfort in the cold, snowy days.
