Maya – Newly Retired, Feeling Lost
Who she is:
Maya (68) retired a few years ago after a long career in healthcare. She thought retirement would feel like freedom—but instead, she feels anxious, bored, and disconnected.
What’s on her mind:
- “I thought I’d be happier…”
- “Should I volunteer? Travel? Go back to work part-time?”
- “What’s my purpose now?”
- “How do I use my money in a way that gives me life?”
How we helped:
We didn’t just talk about spending strategies. We created space for Maya to reimagine what retirement could be by sharing the book What Will I Do All Day by Dr. Patrice Jenkins (link). We helped her create different investment buckets for her needs, another for wants, and another we titled “excess” so she felt safe testing new ideas for volunteering and community engagement. We began moving investment gains into her “excess” bucket to encourage spending and not just reinvesting income and growth. We also began to explore how to use her wealth in a tax efficient way to support causes she cares about, so she felt like she was helping herself AND others.
Haas Financial Group’s insight:
Maya’s financial plan wasn’t broken—her identity needed re-grounding. We helped her realign her resources with her values and take action with intention.
