Lisa – Suddenly Single
Who she is:
Lisa (72) lost her husband unexpectedly a year ago. She never handled the family’s finances, and now faces a confusing mix of decisions, paperwork, and unfamiliar accounts.
What’s on her mind:
- “Am I going to be okay on my own?”
- “Do I have to sell the house?”
- “How do I make smart financial decisions without my partner?”
- “I don’t even know where to begin…”
How we helped:
We didn’t come in with a checklist. We started with listening. Over time, we helped Lisa organize and understand what she had, what decisions were urgent, and what could wait. We prioritized her peace of mind over any investment talk. As we organized her financial life again, we slowly began to make decisions for a sustainable income plan from existing assets and survivor benefits, for updating her estate plan and beneficiary designations, and projecting out taxes for filing single. We’ve since become her sounding board, guide, and trusted friend as she builds a new life—on her terms.
Haas Financial Group insight:
Lisa needed someone to reduce decision fatigue and build trust. She was scared to make decisions out of grief and guilt. By creating safety and pacing the process, we gave her the confidence to move forward.
