The Never-Ending To-Do List at Home

It’s hard to believe it’ll be two years of owning our house at the end of this month. Time has flown by and the projects are slowing down (thankfully!).  I understand the concept of the never-ending list my parents had of things to do around the house now but I’m excited to be on “maintenance mode” instead of “project mode.” I can proudly say I’ve become a pretty good painter since moving in (we’ve painted every space on the first floor and half of the second floor), I’ve learned that all projects take longer than I originally anticipated, and not everything needs to change at one time (Michael is good at reminding me that we have lots of years ahead in this house so change doesn’t need to occur in an instant). As we hit this milestone in our house, I thought it would be fitting to share some of the most dramatic changes we’ve done to our home since we moved to Blandon 😊

The first major project we tackled: the living room/kitchen area (not pictured). All I can say is that I’m very thankful my dad is handy as he and Michael installed the flooring in this space and it made all the difference!

Our least favorite colored bedroom turned into one of our favorites! The power of paint is serious business as it can completely change the feeling of the space (I became very particular when picking paint colors throughout this process and chose colors we knew we’d like for many years).

Our current project (not being tackled by us but by Naugle Construction & Home Repair!): The deck. The old deck was at the point of no return (not safe in certain areas) and we knew this spring was the time to bite the bullet.

We’re still learning a lot when it comes to home ownership but are grateful for all the experience we’ve gained so far. One of the biggest takeaways is to always account for the unexpected costs (why we stress the importance of an adequate cash reserve at HFG 😉) and to be proud of the progress, no matter how big or small, you’ve made to make your house feel more like a home.
